At Meadowcroft School, we offer a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum that is ambitious for all learners, promotes independence, and is adapted for individual need.
Our curriculum strives to be responsive to each learner, building on individual strengths and interests.
Meadowcroft School has a strong curriculum emphasis on building cultural capital, providing all pupils with a range of opportunities to develop both academically and personally in preparation for their next stage in education and adult life. Alongside this, the school has integrated it’s therapeutic provisions into the core curriculum offer, ensuring that each child’s individual needs are addressed.
Our Implementation
Meadowcroft School’s curriculum goes beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum, incorporating a range of trade-based learning experiences outside of a traditional classroom. This allows all learners to remember and build upon the skills they have been taught over time, successfully incorporating new knowledge into key concepts. We provide all our pupils with opportunities to learn and develop skills outside of the classroom through trips, residentials, trade-based learning, leisure and arts activities.
The aims of our curriculum are to:
- Build upon individual strengths and promote independence.
- Develop the skills and knowledge required for life after Meadowcroft School – through an individualised Preparation for Adulthood pathway.
- Develop reading, communication and key maths skills in all areas of the curriculum.
- Go beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum.
These aims ensure that every child and young person becomes a ‘STAR’ – making progress from their starting point across our broad and balanced curriculum offer. At the Primary Phase we ensure cover all aspects of the National Curriculum using an Enquiry Based Model. At the Secondary Phase we split our curriculum into discrete subject areas, with pupils having access to subject specialist teachers and vocational tutors.
