Galley @ Meadowcroft
The Gallery is our lower key stage 3 site where we cater for children from school years 8, 9 and 10. The classrooms are based over 3 floors and form groups work together. The classrooms are low stimulus and ensure they cater for needs of each individual child within the form. The Gallery site has access to a well-being room, where children have an emotional well-being sessions session each week, along with a sensory room and Learning Resource Centre
At The Gallery school begins at 8:30am and closes to all pupils 2:30pm
Hub @ Meadowcroft
The Hub is our specialist SEMH site, where our specialist trained staff help pupils to recognise their emotional responses and provide appropriate strategies to help deal with their trauma. We recognise how important it is that that both pupils and their families understand why they might have found previous educational experiences difficult.
The school recognises that in order to continue to best meet the needs of all pupils that we need to adapt and change the curriculum where appropriate. The Hub has a bespoke curriculum, which incorporates discrete time for emotional regulation and interventions (such as morning TIP sessions and our personalised learning curriculum).
The curriculum at The Hub is based around gaining the essential skills and knowledge needed to be successful in future training and employment. This includes within the core curriculum, such as English and Maths but also life skills across our enhanced personal development curriculum
We have some great additional facilities at The Hub including a Sports Hall room kitted out with a trampoline used during break times as well as for rebound therapy, a gym kitted out with a running machine, exercise bike, rower, and a variety of resistance equipment. In addition to this, the common room can be accessed before school and during breaks and lunches for extra curricular activities.

Works @ Meadowcroft
The Works is our upper key stage 4/5 site which is located a 6-minute walk from Wakefield Westgate train station and is situated at the heart of Wakefield City Centre. The Works is our purpose-built vocational training centre, with facilities situated over 2 floors. The Works offers a suite of bespoke trade-based rooms and classrooms, ensuring that the facilities available to our pupils are second -to- none. The subject specialist teachers, vocational tutors and modern facilities at The Works provide our pupils with everything they need to gain industry standard skills.

Art
The Art curriculum provides a range of stimulating activities, which will allow our pupils to analyse and respond critically to a range of stimulus. In addition, pupils will develop foundation skills such as; drawing, painting, printing, photography and digital based art.
In upper secondary, pupils can choose to develop these skills further through a range of accredited outcomes.

Catering
Catering provides our pupils with the skills and knowledge to become independent and healthy individuals by looking at food choice and nutrition. In lower secondary the pupils work on the key skills and techniques for a range of simple recipes.
In upper secondary pupils can select to further their skills and knowledge by looking in more depth at the properties of food and preparation, via a range of accredited outcomes.

Construction
The construction curriculum is vocational skill led and provides pupils with the necessary skills and knowledge to enter employment or skills based learning after leaving Meadowcroft. The curriculum builds on the basic skills developed within Design Technology and focuses on the core disciplines of the industry; Carpentry, Joinery, Plumbing and Brick Laying.
In upper secondary, pupils can work towards a series of accredited outcomes. These include:
- AIM Construction and Building.
Design Technology
In Design Technology, we encourage our pupils to develop key skills such as; problem solving and analytical thinking. The curriculum is designed to encourage pupils to think about how objects are designed and the impact this has on the world around them. Pupils will be encouraged to develop their ideas and develop their analytical thinking through a range of testing and feedback cycles.
English
At Meadowcroft we have invested a significant amount of curriculum coverage and intervention capacity, to close the gaps within reading, writing and spoken language for all our pupils. As such, English is approached within a cross-curricular fashion – with every subject area developing key literacy targets and also, within discrete stand alone sessions 4 days a week.
We encourage all our pupils to read widely and for pleasure – with interventions for reading age being incorporated into our whole school curriculum offer.
In upper secondary, all pupils work towards a range of accredited outcomes. These include:
- Functional Skills English (Entry Level 1 – Level 2)
- GCSE English Language
- GCSE English Literature
Geography
Geography enables our pupils to become environmentally aware, looking at the impacts of our actions on the world. This develops their cultural capital, ensuring that they leave Meadowcroft as a valuable member of society.
History
History provides an opportunity for our pupils to explore social, moral and ethical issues within a safe and engaging space. The History curriculum is designed to develop key skills for life after Meadowcroft, such as; analytical thinking, evaluation and problem solving skills.
In lower secondary, pupils will study a range of both British and World key events. In Upper secondary, pupils can work towards a GCSE History accreditation to further develop their skills and knowledge.
Mathematics
We are passionate about the difference a quality mathematics curriculum can bring to a young person. As such, we have adopted a cross-curricular approach to the development of core mathematical skills within the school.
In addition, Mathematics is delivered in discrete sessions 4 days a week. In lower secondary, we look at the skills and knowledge which form the building blocks of Mathematic. This will include; number, algebra, geometry, data handling and their application.
In upper secondary, all pupils work towards a range of accredited outcomes. These include:
- Functional Skills Mathematics (Entry Level 1 – Level 2)
- GCSE Mathematics (Short Course)
- GCSE Statistics
Motor Mechanics
The motor mechanics curriculum is vocational skill led and provides pupils with the necessary skills and knowledge to enter employment or skills based learning after leaving Meadowcroft. The curriculum is delivered within our purpose built and fully equipped motor vehicle workshop at The Works.
Pupils will develop the key skills for motor maintenance and repair in a realistic working environment.

Music
Our Music curriculum provides a means in which all our children and young people can safely express their feelings and emotions; as it provides a medium in which they can connect with others.
Pupils will explore how music works and practice the building blocks of practical musical sessions.
PSHE
PSHE provides all our pupils with the skills and knowledge necessary to be happy, healthy and safe both at home and in the community.
Pupils will explore a range of current and topical issues, including; mental health, physical health, healthy relationships, extremism and radicalisation, finance and British values. We also work directly with the safeguarding team to identify any topics as they arise and change the curriculum, where necessary to meet this need.

Physical Education
Physical education promotes the core values of health and wellbeing, by providing pupils with a range of group and individual skill building activities.

In upper secondary, pupils are offered the opportunity to develop their analytical, tactical and collaborative skills within our range of accredited outcomes. These include:

Religious Education
Religious education provides an opportunity for our pupils to explore social, moral and ethical issues within a safe and engaging space. In addition to broadening our pupils cultural capital, it develops essential skills for life after Meadowcroft – such as independence, tolerance and respect for other’s opinions.
In lower secondary, pupils will study a curriculum which introduces them to world religions, philosophy and ethics. In upper secondary, pupils are offered the opportunity to broaden their skills and knowledge by participating within our GCSE Religious Education (Short course).
ASDAN Beliefs and Values (Short Course)
Science
Science at Meadowcroft provides all children and young people with the opportunities to develop resilience and independence. In the secondary phase group pupils study all 3 branches of science; Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Personal Development Curriculum
Personal Development is woven in to all aspects of school life at Meadowcroft and we pride ourselves on providing an environment for all pupils to thrive and mature into well-informed young adults. Our PSHE curriculum underpins this aim in the context of three core themes: relationships, physical health & mental wellbeing and living in the wider world (including economic wellbeing and careers education).
Our Personal Development Curriculum offer gives the children the knowledge and understanding they need make informed choices and to be a positive influence in the communities that they belong to. Our aim is to develop skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, team-working and critical thinking.
We want our learners to feel empowered with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage life’s challenges and make the most of life’s opportunities. We aim to give our learners the knowledge and tools they need to understand how to take care of themselves, physically and mentally, and how they can stay safe and thrive in an ever changing world.
